Q: How did you stumble upon your AWESOME path?
I became a mom at 19 years old. My whole adult life has been focused on being the best mom to my son and daughter (now ages 20 and 17). As my children got older, I began to experience an identity crisis of sorts. As my children participated in extracurricular activities and other things as they became more independent, I found myself with more time on my hands. Initially, I had no idea what to do with it. I finally decided, in 2014, that it was time for me to pursue my dreams. I started my blog and began to pursue plus-size modeling.
Q: Who inspired you into taking this path?
Zaire and Christal, my children. I've always taught them to pursue their goals. I decided that it was now time for me to show them what that means by being an example.
Q: Who was the first person who believed in you?
Give us names, dates, and details. This could be your first customer, your first teacher, or the first person who showed you that you could do this.
I was painfully shy as a child, but I felt like I could do anything in the world when I entered my 9th grade English class. My English teacher, Ms. Meshaw, was a constant source of motivation. She made such a big deal of my writing capabilities and this led me to realize that writing is one of my gifts.
Q: What was the moment you knew you could be successful at your path?
Knowing that complete strangers have connected with Truly Charmed Life and getting messages from women who are happy with their orders from the boutique lets me know that I am surely building a network of wonderful ladies who look forward to what Truly Charmed Life has to offer.
Q: How do you define success for the path that you're on right now?
Readers who come back to the blog for more fashion and lifestyle tidbits, and customers who are satisfied with the services provided by Charmed Life Apparel
Q: What’s been the most important skill you've developed ever since you took the entrepreneurial route?
I've always been a creative thinker, but being a small business owner in the fashion arena has truly sharpened my creative thinking. You have to be able to develop a unique identity and set yourself apart in these fashion streets. This requires a continuous flow of ideas.
Q: What’s been your greatest challenge since starting your business?
When you build an audience, you want to be sure that you communicate with them on a regular basis. My challenge has been consistently updating social media content.
Q: What’s been your greatest reward in the choices you've made to do this?
In addition to being a fashion entrepreneur, I also have a 9 to 5. My greatest reward has been my ability to excel in my daytime career while also managing the demands of growing a fashion brand.
Q: What do you want to learn from the Fashionpreneurs community and how has it impacted you?
I am truly excited about being a part of this community. You can find business masterminds everywhere, but to have the opportunity to build with others in the fashion industry is a golden opportunity. I look forward to sharing my strengths and learning from others who have been successful in building a multifaceted fashion business.
